Nicholas Mackey

Born in Dublin, this man of many talents has a passion for storytelling and has established a profound connection with the visual world, ever since he was given an antique bellows camera by his grandmother, at the age of seven. This helped him to create images, to make pictures and eventually to write. He graduated from T.C.D. in Natural Sciences and since then, he has had a career in a multitude of different areas, as an English teacher, film director, computer instructor, journalist, radio and TV presenter, working in both RTE and the BBC

His most recent work “An Irishman in Northern Mesopotamia”, traces his journey through south-east Turkey, where the Cradle of Civilization once flourished, between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. As well as his memoirs, the book contains history, archaeology, mythology and poetry.
